Always wanted to learn how to draw? Perhaps you’ve done some drawing before but
would love to learn some new techniques. Maybe you just feel stuck and want to review
what you already know with a friendly group.
This eight-week class will teach you basic techniques used to draw what you see with
more precision. The small class size allows for lessons to be adjusted on the spot to
better help students needs.
These classes are meant to be a relaxed setting for all skill levels and styles. While
critiques will be provided throughout the sessions, the emphases will always be on
having fun rather than quality.
All supplies are included. There is a one-week break in the middle of the term. Swipe the images to learn more about the instructor!
Session 1 - September 24th: Why draw?
Get familiar with the tools by making your first marks. Start thinking about what you
want your end goal to be with your drawings, a finished piece, an under sketch for a
painting, or more.
Session 2- October 1st: Change how you see
Start looking at your references as an artist by breaking it down into simple shapes.
Session 3 - October 8th: Find the light
Learn how light effects and object and turns a flat shape into a three-dimensional object.
Session 4- October 15th: Adding depth
Learn how to use one- and two-point perspective to give your drawing depth and the
illusion of three dimensions.
October 22nd - Break, no class
Session 5 - October 29th: Beyond the grid
Further explore perspective without fully relying on the grids used for one- and two-point perspective.
Session 6 - November 5th: Drawing empty spaces
Look beyond the lines of the object you’re drawing and focus entirely on the relationship of light and shadows.
Session 7 - November 12th: Planning your image
Move beyond simply copying a reference and begin creating a piece with purpose by
changing the composition, adding or removing elements, and finding the focus of your
piece.
Session 8 - November 19th (last class): Final project
Using the techniques learned, create a final drawing you can be proud of.
